The department of History in Shri Shahaji Chhatrapati
Mahavidyalaya’s offers knowledgeable and creative fields of History. The
faculty members of the department are engaged in cutting-edge research in a
huge variety of fields. The department
is committed to provide research aptitude skill, employability opportunities
and intellectual curiosity. It aims to explain the present in the light of the
past through teaching, research and extra-curricular activities. All the
faculty members are always ready to render all possible assistance and guidance
to students.
The department of History started in 1974. Initially the
department had limited strength. But later on it became one of the most
distinguished and active departments. The department has a rich tradition of
eminent professors. Dr. J. B. Pawar (1974 to 2002), an eminent and renowned Professor of History, Shri
Anandrao Vairat (1974 to 1998) and Shri. A. D. Girigosavi (1987 to 2012) was
the former faculty members of the department. At present Dr. S. V. Shikhare is
the Associate Professor and head of the department. Shri S. D. Apradha and Dr.
S. D. Jadhav are the present faculty members of the department.

Develop and sustain the interest of the students in the historical era march ahead for progressive future.
Mission:
To make the students familiar with the historical knowledge and inculcate skills of analytical thinking by cultivating their intellectual capabilities.
Objectives:
1) To acquaint the students with the rich tradition
of Maratha History.
2) To promote studies of society and culture of
India in general and Maharashtra in particular.
3) To develop interest and awareness among the
students about local history and historical monuments.
4) To encourage students to acquire the skills and
methods of writing history and to develop research aptitude.

Certificate Course:
The department in collaboration with the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, Shivaji University offers certificate course entitled Modi Script and this course is well received by the students.
इतिहास विभाग
सुविधा:
१) इतिहास विभागासाठी इंटरनेट सुविधेसह आयसीटी
युक्त स्वतंत्र कक्ष उपलब्ध आहे.
२) विभागातमध्ये २०० पेक्षा जास्त, संदर्भ ग्रंथ, क्रमिक पुस्तके आणि संशोधक, भारत इतिहास आणि संस्कृती, समाज प्रबोधन पत्रिका, साधन इत्यादी त्रेमासिकाचे मागील अंक आहेत असलेले एक छोटेविभागीय ग्रंथालय
आहे.
३) प्राचीन, मध्ययुगीन, आधुनिक कालखंडावर आधारित १०० पेक्षा जास्तनकाशांचा संग्रह आहे.
प्राध्यापक परंपरा:
इतिहास
विभागाला प्राध्यापकांची समृद्ध परंपरा लाभलेली आहे. श्री शहाजी महाविद्यालय
स्थापन झाले तेंव्हा पासून ते १९७५-७६ पर्यन्त विभागात प्रा. पी. व्ही. इनामदार आणि
प्रा. एन. जे. मुश्रीफ अध्यापनाचे कार्य करत होते. महाराष्ट्रातील नामवंत इतिहास
संशोधक डॉ. जयसिंगराव पवार इतिहास विभागामध्ये जून १९७५ मध्ये रुजू झाले व सन २००२
मध्ये सेवानिवृत झाले. डॉ. पवार प्रारंभी पासून इतिहास विभागप्रमुख म्हणून कार्यरत
होते. प्रा. आनंदराव वैराट जून १९७७ मध्ये महाविद्यालयात नियुक्त झाले व सन १९९८
मध्ये सेवानिवृत झाले. प्रा. आनंद गिरीगोसावी सन १९८७-८८ मध्ये महाविद्यालयात
नियुक्त झाले व सन २०१२ मध्ये सेवानिवृत झाले. प्रा. गिरीगोसावी सन २००२ ते २०१२
पर्यन्त इतिहास विभाग प्रमुखम्हणून कार्यरत होते. दरम्यानच्या काळात प्रा. एस. एन.
गोरे (१९८५-८६), डॉ. श्रीमती एम. बी. मुंगळे इतिहास
विभागात तसिका तत्वावर कार्यरत होते. प्रा. एस. डी. अपराध यांची सन २००५, डॉ. एस. व्ही. शिखरे यांची सन २००७ मध्ये अधिव्याख्याता म्हणून महाविद्यालयात
नियुक्ती झाली. सन २०१३ पासून डॉ. एस. व्ही. शिखरे विभागप्रमुख म्हणून काम पाहत
आहेत. डॉ. एस. डी. जाधव सन २०१४ पासून सहा. प्राध्यापक म्हणून कार्यरत आहेत.
